Octopath Traveler is fully enjoyable, no matter which starting character players choose. Battles around the Octopath Traveler world map scale depend on how many characters are in a player’s party, so there is no rush to run out and recruit every character right away.

How many side quests are in Octopath traveler?
Side Stories are small quests that can be solved using Path Actions or by defeating certain enemies. There are 101 side stories in total. The first side story available is always Kit, the Traveler, and will take place in the same region as the first traveler chosen by the player.
Who should I start with Octopath?
We recommend choosing Therion or Cyrus as your starter. Therion can steal HP and SP from targets saving you the use of items for that purpose and Cyrus’ ability to discern weaknesses and his sweeping elemental attacks are great for beginning areas.

As long as you do the side content and/or find a Cait or two, there’s no need to grind. If you just did all the main story stuff, I could see a need for grinding.

Completing Octopath Traveler’s main story will take you approximately 50 to 60 hours of gameplay. The duration is taken to conquer the main story and does not include the sidequests. There are plenty of sidequests available in the Octopath Traveler game.

I would say yes, and I bought it at full price. If you’re a fan of JRPG’s its a really solid title. Yes some of the stories can be a tad contrived but overall I found them serviceable and enjoyable.

In my honest opinion it is well worth $60. Ive played around 35 hours worth of Octopath now and am not close to completing it. By my estimates ill be “done” under my standards in around 15-20 more hours (being done means clearing the in game challenge “final boss” but not necessarily 100% the whole game).
